Braids should be washed at least every 2 weeks. One method of washing consists of soaking your hair with water.Plait several braids together, dilute regular shampoo with water and put it in a spray bottle. Apply the shampoo to your scalp and use the tips of your fingers to massage and gently work the shampoo thru the hair. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry. Allow braids to dry completlybefore going to bed to prevent bacteria biuldup and mildew. If your hair frizzes after washing apply small amounts of gel or aloe vera while damp and secure it with a silk scarf. Between washings you can use an antiseptic product to cleanse the scalp.
Stylists recommend that you let no more than 2 to 3 monthsgo by between styling sessions, hair can matte, dry out, or begin to break.
Wash with a moisterizing shampoo, a clear shampoo is best because it does not leave a residue, which can get caught at the root of the extension/braid and cause flaking. Be sure to gently massage the shampoo into the scalp between parts, and allow the entire extension/braid to be washed.
Another way of washing extensions/braids is by placing a stocking cap over the braids and then washing, thishelps to decrease the amount of friction caused by massaging the scalp, which can cause flyaway.
Some stylist recommend keaping a leave in conditioner on the hair. Regular conditioning can cause the extension/braid to loosen and does not penetrate the eztension/braid well enough. Oil the scalp afterevery shampoo. Be sureto oil just between the parts, and massage into the scalp ( do not use petroleum or mineral oil based products ). Sleep with a silk/satin scarf on your head, this helps control friction, which can cause flyaway.
